Michy Batshuayi has never been a center-forward first-choice for the London giants and turns 27 later this year, so if he continues at his current pace, his career is over.
It seems he’s going to leave Chelsea this summer, but a report has suggested that Blues still wants to give him an extension of the contract until sending him out on loan. Crystal Palace, West Brom and Newcastle United are interested in loaning Belgium, but you’ve got to ask why he’d like to take a new deal.
Even if he has his life ‘s campaign and scores 20 + goals then he’ll come back and challenge Abraham and Giroud for a backup spot behind Timo Werner, so it’s got to be a London club economic decision that they’re hoping to sell him on at the end of the season.
The report does say that his contract has only a year remaining, so they could have an opportunity to prolong it, and then Michy wouldn’t have a choice in this matter, but it seems like a case where letting him go will be better.
In the first-team last campaign under Frank Lampard, the Belgian striker has been given chances, but since Timo Werner joined during this season, Batshuayi is now up front further down the pecking order and is essentially fourth-choice behind Timo Werner, Tammy Abraham and Olivier Giroud.
