According to theAthleticUK, Chelsea will be without summer signings Hakim Ziyech and Ben Chilwell for the opening game of the Premier League season against Brighton on Monday night, reports Simon Johnson.
The Athletic reports that both men have already been ruled out with injury, but the news that Christian Pulisic is in contention to feature has boosted Chelsea.
Another player in line to make full debut is Timo Werner, who is returning to London after the international matches.
After spending a vacation in Sardinia, former Paris Saint-Germain captain Thiago Silva arrived in London, having played in the Champions League final just over two weeks ago.
He will, of course, first have to be tested for COVID-19 before joining the group, but if the results are clear, on Thursday he will take his first session with the group.
Since completing his lucrative move last Friday, Chelsea’s expensive recruit from Bayer Leverkusen didn’t have many first-team players to work with, due to so many being away on the international duty and others in self-isolation.
Nevertheless, The Athletic report that Havertz has had a very positive impact on the drills that have taken place and is already looking very settled in his new environment.
That is his advance, he’s expected to make his debut against Brighton.
After recovering from some minor knocks, Cesar Azpilicueta and Reece James should be well enough to start the campaign.
